This is Michiel from Hashgraph, bringing you the July developer highlights.
The Hello Future: Origin Hackathon is officially underway! Kicking off with a great opening ceremony, builders from around the world are already competing for their share of $550K in prizes. It’s not too late to join: the Origins phase runs until August 8, so there’s still time to register and submit your project.
We also launched Hedera Agent Kit v3, packed with new tools and patterns for building smarter, AI-powered apps on Hedera. Also, make sure to check out the namespace transition announcement to Hiero. Read on for key announcements, workshops, and HIP updates.
In this workshop, Jake Hall and Lindsay Walker walk developers through building AI agents on Hedera. They demo the Hedera Agent Kit, show how to integrate AI agents with smart contracts, and explore both autonomous and human-in-the-loop agent modes.
This month’s Hedera Technical Community Call featured Hgraph’s work on infrastructure, APIs, and developer tooling. Brandon Davenport shared progress on the WalletConnect (rebranded as Reown) v2 integration, which enables seamless wallet-to-DApp connectivity for both Hedera-native and EVM-compatible wallets. The team also showcased Hgraph’s GraphQL playground with an AI assistant, designed to streamline data access and querying.
This stream dives into how LinkPool’s robust RPC infrastructure and Binary Holdings’ telco integrations are powering real-world Web3 adoption on Hedera. Builders now have access to scalable tools and a path to reach millions of mobile users across Asia.
This blog talks about how Hedera ensures the reliability and performance of its Hiero consensus-node software before release. It highlights the use of rigorous automated testing, a gated CI/CD pipeline, and a phased rollout across previewnet, testnet, and mainnet. These practices help catch issues early and give the community time to prepare. It reflects Hedera’s commitment to quality while shipping updates consistently.
Starting January 2026, the cost of ConsensusSubmitMessage transactions on Hedera will increase from $0.0001 to $0.0008 USD. This aligns pricing with actual infrastructure costs and ensures fair compensation for node operators. While still among the lowest in the industry, this marks Hedera’s first fee change since 2019. Developers are encouraged to review usage and prepare ahead of the v0.69 mainnet upgrade.
This Hashgraph Hustlers livestream dives into building no-code plugins for Hedera using n8n. Milan from Windhelm Labs joins to demo token creation and transfers, all without writing code. The team explores integrating AI agents and outlines the vision for workflow automation on Hedera. Perfect for builders looking to unlock Hedera’s power with low-code tools.
This HIP proposes replacing Hedera’s current gas-per-second throttle with a more accurate operations-per-second model for smart contract execution. By separating billing (gas) from performance throttling (operations), the network can safely support 10x higher throughput, better reflecting real computation costs while preserving Ethereum tool compatibility. Developers benefit from more flexible billing (no 80% minimum gas charge) and improved scalability without changing existing code.
HIP-1139 proposes enabling truly immutable Hedera Consensus Service (HCS) topics by allowing developers to render Admin Keys and Submit Keys permanently unusable. This aligns HCS with existing key management features in the Token Service (HIP-540). The HIP introduces mechanisms to make Submit Keys “dead” (all-zeros) and proposes a one-way method to deactivate Admin Keys without needing a signature. These changes ensure topics can be securely transitioned to a state where no further messages or updates are possible
HIP‑1217 improves Hedera’s /api/v1/contracts/call endpoint by replacing the old monolithic EVM implementation with a modular execution flow integrated via the hedera-app library. This ensures contract calls on mirror nodes behave identically to those on consensus nodes, improving gas estimates, error messaging, and support for newer system contracts.
