Hi there,

This is Michiel from Hashgraph, bringing you the June developer highlights.

This month marks the launch of the Hello Future: Origin Hackathon, a global competition powered by Hedera with $550,000 in prizes across three phases. Starting July 21 – August 8 with the Origins phase, builders of all levels can create MVPs and compete for a share of $150,000.

To support your journey, we’re highlighting the pre-release version of the Hedera CLI. Further, make sure to catch the latest Technical Community Call filled with insights on workflows and DeFi architectures. And check out the two new HIPs—1215 (scheduled contract calls) and 1217 (modularized contracts call API)—now available for review. Let's dive into these exciting updates and more!

Try the Hedera CLI (Pre-release version)

The Hedera Command Line Interface (CLI) simplifies setup, automation, and management of applications on the Hedera network. Its Script Blocks feature enables developers to automate tasks by chaining multiple commands together. Developers can store outputs such as token IDs, topic IDs, and private keys as reusable variables (output:varName). These variables can then be referenced in subsequent commands.

Blog: Reimagining REIT Cashflows: Managing Revenue and Expenses in Web3

Nadine's latest blog shows how REITs can be transformed using Web3 tech for transparent, automated cashflows. Rent is paid in USDC directly to smart contract treasuries, which handle expenses and send surplus to yield-generating vaults. Investors receive real-time, programmable income with optional auto-compounding. DAO governance ensures larger expenses are approved transparently on-chain. This architecture highlights Hedera’s potential to power efficient, next-gen real estate investing.

                              HIP-1215: Generalized Schedule Contract Call

HIP‑1215 enables smart contracts to schedule any contract call via the Hedera Schedule Service (HSS) for future execution. This unlocks powerful on-chain automation for things like delayed actions, multi-step workflows, and fully decentralized coordination, without relying on off-chain triggers.

                                HIP-1217: Contracts/Calls API Changes

HIP‑1217 improves Hedera’s /api/v1/contracts/call endpoint by replacing the old monolithic EVM implementation with a modular execution flow integrated via the hedera-app library. This ensures contract calls on mirror nodes behave identically to those on consensus nodes, improving gas estimates, error messaging, and support for newer system contracts.
